Why fighting wildfires matters
Not all fires are bad. Natural fires can help keep ecosystems healthy by clearing dense vegetation, recycling nutrients, and supporting biodiversity. But when wildfires are uncontrolled, they spread destruction, destroying habitats, releasing carbon dioxide, and threatening both people and wildlife.
World Resources Institute reports that forest fires now burn more than twice as much tree cover as they did two decades ago. Wildfires can harm wildlife directly and contribute to a climate feedback loop: warming increases fire risk, fires release emissions, and the cycle continues.

In Honduras, forest fires are reported to cause up to 80% of forest loss. This project restores 96,500 hectares of watershed forest around Tegucigalpa by planting fire-resilient species, protecting water sources, and creating long-term resilience for forests and communities.
🌱 Yurúa Conservation Concession – Peru
Location: Alto Yurúa, Peruvian Amazon
In one of the most isolated parts of the Amazon, this project helps indigenous communities recover from wildfires and destructive activities. Efforts include conserving forest cover, protecting species, and ensuring sustainable management of rivers and resources critical to local people.
