International Day of Action for Rivers
March 14, 2024
International Day of Action for Rivers is an annual event to raise awareness about the importance of rivers and the threats they face, as well as to promote river conservation and sustainable management. The day was established by the NGO “International Rivers” in 2005 to celebrate the importance of rivers and to raise awareness of the threats they face, such as pollution, damming, and over-extraction of water. The theme for International Day of Action for Rivers changes each year, but it is always focused on highlighting the importance of rivers and the need to protect them. Rivers are key in maintaining stability in our ecosystems and oceans. They are the receivers of most plastic, which then ends up in the ocean. We partner with organizations cleaning plastic from the most polluted rivers in the world.
