International Leopard Day

International Leopard Day, celebrated on May 3rd, honors these elusive and nocturnal animals, whose size and color vary depending on their habitat. Leopards are exceptional climbers, often hiding in trees where they stash their prey to avoid competition. As members of the cat family, leopards are found across Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Russia, and the Indian subcontinent.

Unfortunately, leopards are listed as near threatened on the IUCN Red List, with their populations rapidly declining due to habitat loss, prey depletion, human conflict, trophy hunting, and poaching for their skin and body parts.
