International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove is celebrated on July 26th to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove ecosystems and the need to protect them. Mangroves are a type of coastal vegetation that provides habitat and breeding grounds for a wide range of marine and terrestrial species, and also play a vital role in coastal protection, fisheries, tourism, carbon sequestration, and regulating the climate. Unfortunately, mangroves are under threat from human activities such as coastal development, pollution, and over-exploitation.
