World Otter Day, observed on the last Wednesday of May—falling on May 28 this year—is a day dedicated to celebrating and protecting otters. These beautiful and playful animals inhabit wetlands around the globe. Unfortunately, otter populations are declining due to habitat destruction, prey reduction, roadkill, and illegal trade for their fur and as exotic pets. World Otter Day raises awareness about these threats and promotes efforts to conserve these charming creatures.
