What is Dots.eco?
Dots.eco is an environmental impact-as-a-service platform that transforms micro casual actions into real-life environmental impact. We celebrate individuals who make a positive footprint on their companies, their lives, and the planet.
How does Dots.eco work?
Dots.eco aggregates millions of micro-individual actions and transforms them into tangible environmental impact. We transform digital interactions into positive environmental impact. By playing your favorite games, participating in your preferred loyalty programs, or purchasing products in web stores, you can become an impact-maker and protect the most critical areas of the world.
Does Dots.eco operate as an NGO or a company?
Dots.eco is a company that operates as an environmental impact as a service platform. It collaborates with partner organizations and global entities to facilitate and promote environmental initiatives, but it functions as a business entity rather than a nonprofit organization.
Tell me more…how does Dots work exactly?
Our unit cost includes the cost of the impact and a transaction-based fee from the companies we’re serving. This fee, normally reaching just a few cents per transaction, is meant to cover our transactional costs, the support needed for the system operation, and enhance our impact reach through marketing and growth.
We operate very efficiently with the assistance of some Hi-Tech algorithms, this allows us to maintain a very cost-effective price per impact unit and leverage both large activities and micro-transactions for making an environmental impact.
Which organizations do you collaborate with?
We collaborate only with vetted environmental organizations across the globe that are committed to making the world a better place. The organizations we collaborate with range from large organizations to tiny collective groups like Eden Projects, Rainforest Trust, Green Worms and Plastic Fischer.
Which companies do you work with?
We only work with vetted companies from selected industries. We stay away from companies involved in greenwashing by making sure our potential business partners spend more business operations on making an eco-impact, rather than focusing on their marketing to reach new opportunities.
Impact types
What impact types does Dots.eco offer?
Dots.eco offers a variety of impact types, including tree planting, wildlife habitat protection, plastic/litter cleanup, sea turtle conservation, protecting marine areas, and restoring coral reefs.
Why did you choose those impacts, and not others?
We have carefully selected the impact types we work with, backed by science and prioritized by leading international initiatives to tackle climate change, and based on what our customers find most important. We aim to fund more environmental projects in the most critical areas of the world. Our work focuses on environmental activities that are measurable and quantifiable; each impact type has its own unit.
How does Dots.eco select which initiatives to support?
Recognizing that our current climate crisis is a multifaceted issue which can and should be tackled through various angles, Dots.eco tries to prioritize initiatives that can push forward the global scale strategy set forth by top science-backed climate authorities – i.e. the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The idea is to focus on areas that can have great impacts on global climate be it by mitigating current effects or by preventing a worsening of current conditions. For example, the efforts we support to restore the Green Belt in Africa which has a crucial role in regulating continental climates, or the efforts we support focused on beach and rivers cleanups to prevent plastics from reaching the ocean all-together and prevent enlargement of the oceanic plastic patches.
The goal is to try to facilitate the most impact we can, so we look at a wide variety of initiatives and our environmental team works very hard to stay as updated as they can about what initiatives are going on out there so that we can partner with the best of them.
We select initiatives through active research and passive methods. Active research involves targeting specific regions or species, often due to partner requests, and checking the list of UN Decade partners. Passive options include potential organization contacting us via our chatbot and referrals from external connections.
Where is the impact performed?
Our impact is performed across the globe where it is needed most. We currently support projects in the US, South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. You can find out the initiative that your activity is supporting by tracking the certificate number you received in this link!
Who is performing the impact on the ground?
Dots.eco collaborates with a portfolio of 30+ vetted environmental partners to execute these impacts on the ground. These partners undergo rigorous vetting and background checks, and many of them work with reputable institutions like UNEP, IUCN, and UNDP to address climate change and ecosystem restoration challenges. Some of our more well known environmental partners are One Tree Planted, Sea Turtle Conservancy, and Rainforest Trust. But we also work with smaller initiatives to ensure strong local effects, like Love the Oceans, Green Worms, Biorock Indonesia, and many more.
How are the organizations you work with vetted?
We have a comprehensive 10 step process when selecting and vetting our environmental partners. This includes screening sessions, introductory meetings, vetting questionnaires, extensive background checks of past impacts and the team leading and executing these impacts, environmental expert evaluations, and clarification meetings.
Who decides what type of eco-impact I will be rewarded?
Our business partners decide the type of eco-impact to reward their end-users. For instance, we assist gaming studios in integrating impacts like tree planting, saving sea turtles, and protecting wildlife habitats into their games, creating a nice experience for players while giving back to the planet. What can I do with the certificate granted?
You should be very proud of it! Your activity is sponsoring real-world global impact. You can share your certificate on social media and proudly showcase the impact you’ve made. You can also follow the progress of the initiative your activity is supporting by going to track.dots.eco.
How can I check if my impact is done?
Our impact is trackable with the certificate ID received. You can access your personalized dashboard on our website and check the status of your eco-impact.
Impact monitoring and reporting
How does Dots.eco monitor the impact of its initiatives?
Dots.eco ensures monitoring and reporting of the impact through various mechanisms. Environmental partners undergo vetting and collaborate with renowned global organizations. They provide regular reports, including quantitative and qualitative data, as well as photos and videos from the field. Some partners also engage in third-party auditing to ensure transparency. Dots.eco requests tangible ecological key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to each impact type and verifies the progress through remote sensing materials and methods.
What are our reporting requirements?
Dots.eco maintains a commitment to transparency and accountability. Our environmental partners produce regular reports that showcase their performance, including quantitative and qualitative data, as well as photos and videos from the field. Each impact type category has different reporting requirements since the activities differ so much. In essence, we always request confirmation of the impact being done and follow up reports on the progress of the overall project with relevant metrics – for example, survival rates for planting efforts, the status of local threatened species populations for protection efforts, the destination of the collected plastic, etc. We also encourage our partners to engage in third-party auditing to ensure transparent operations. By sharing this information with our users, we provide evidence of the impact achieved and the credibility of our initiatives.
Can individuals track their personal impact on Dots.eco?
Yes, individuals can track their personal impact through the Dots.eco platform. They receive updates on their impact status, before and after satellite imagery, and shareable certificates that validate their contributions. This allows them to see the real-life environmental outcomes of their actions.

Are the initiatives you support sustainable?
Yes. Our initiatives are not just focused on protecting the environment now, but making sure that the environment remains protected in the long term as well. We partner with organizations that focus on both the short-and the long-term results, supporting efforts that integrate the local community into decision-making and focus on building a culture of sustainability while eliminating incentives for destructive landscape use. This approach is called creating a conservation culture and has been found to be not just more effective than traditional approaches, but also more beneficial to local populations and environments, nurturing a culture of balanced coexistence between nature and people.
How do you ensure that the supported initiatives are sustainable?
Our assurance mechanisms start with vetting. We assess the past work of the organizations to assess the impacts and outcomes of their efforts against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the aims set forth by the Convention on Biological Diversity and Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. These are science-based goals, targets, and guidelines to ensure sustainable development and conservation of our planet’s ecosystems. This way, we partner with organizations with a proven history of doing conservation the right way. Our team of environmental scientists also screen the proposed projects individually to ensure that the necessary environmental and socio-economic dimensions that ensure sustainable conservation in the long-term are present. Lastly, we monitor the progress of the projects with a range of metrics to ensure all environmental and socio-economic needs are being met.
